flavour

Powerfully lemony but without any astringency – just sweetness and depth from the almost lemon-sherbet flavour and natural citrus aroma. It’s also caffeine-free and great for digestion.

The lemon verbena plants are grown in the mountainous Serra de São Mamede region of Portugal, which benefits from warm sunny days and slightly cooler nights due to the altitude. The plants also grow alongside cork oaks and olive trees. These are ideal conditions to develop a gorgeously intense flavour, concentrating the aromas and essential oils in every leaf.

origin

Our lemon verbena comes from the Monte das Aromáticas collective, run by chief grower Carlos. After moving back to his home country of Portugal, he started producing high grade aromatic and medicinal plants in 2016. Carlos is completely self-taught in growing, spending years experimenting with alternative production methods.

The farm is located in the mountains of São Mamede, a protected park on the Spanish border. The region is populated by cork oaks and a rich array of fauna and flora, which contributes to the unique terroir of the lemon verbena. Carlos also uses organic, biodynamic and agroforestry techniques to grow his plants, working with nature not against it to produce some truly delicious herbal and aromatic infusions.
