In our history of seeking out the most delicious teas and herbs in the world, we’ve tried many different chamomiles. This one has the best flavour and it’s where those tiny flower heads really come into their own. Because of the concentration of essential oils in the small flowers, the infusion has an overarching intensity and sweet notes with a hint of caramel. The fruity smooth flavour evokes an apple orchard in late summer and, as it’s naturally caffeine-free, it’s an ideal infusion to enjoy before bed to help promote a good night’s sleep. Chamomile has been used for centuries as a sleep remedy and natural aid to relaxation.
ORIGIN
Zagreb County,
Croatia
Grown in the fields of rural Zagreb County in Croatia, these chamomile flowers are rich in flavour thanks to their small heads. Other varieties of chamomile can be dry and dusty and disintegrate easily. These Croatian flowers remain more intact and this comes down to the quality of the flowers growing in ideal climatic conditions and the care with which they’re harvested. Eastern Europe and particularly Croatia are the source of some of the best herbs in the world. There are large areas of land that have never had intensive agriculture and there’s something of an agricultural revolution going on. Some established farms and gardens are harvesting herbs growing virtually wild in ideal conditions.
