5 hotels we love to visit

Five of our favourite hotels around the country well worth a visit, for many more reasons than just because they offer a lovely cup of Canton.

One of the lovely perks about working at Canton is discovering hotels, restaurants and cafes when a new partner comes on board.

Here are five of our favourite hotels well worth a visit, for many more reasons than just offering a lovely cup of Canton.

Moor Hall, Lancashire

Priding itself as a restaurant with rooms, food is at the heart of any visit to Moor Hall. All seven hotel rooms ooze with luxury and have a stunning view over either the lake or gardens. A particular highlight of ‘Menu 8’, tasting menu served at weekends is the number of additional small appetisers you get between courses. Their carefully curated selection of teas from around the world are served tableside - in some cases gongfu style - for a full sensory experience.

What really swings it for us is the cheese room. A whole room dedicated to cheese. Following the huge success of Moor Hall, they have recently also opened The Barn as a casual dining option.

Our tip: After your meal take a stroll around the impressive kitchen garden, before enjoying a pot of tea or coffee in the old lounge.

Old Parsonage Hotel, Oxford

This Oxford hotel has been a firm favourite of ours for years with its central location and charming 17th century exterior holding a welcoming contemporary interior. Gorgeous rooms, excellent food and impeccable service make it the perfect base if you’re in Oxford.

Our tip: If the weather’s good, the walled courtyard is the sweet spot to enjoy afternoon tea. On wet weather days, curl up in their exclusive residents' library or take the resident’s guided tour of Oxford.

Babington House, Somerset

Probably needs little introduction as the country house of the Soho House group. It has long had the reputation for laid back luxury combined with amazing service. Acres of Somerset countryside, walled garden, pool, spa and food using homegrown produce.

Every afternoon at 3pm, they serve a complimentary afternoon tea for guests, with the menu changing daily.

Another Place, The Lake, Cumbria

We have a long, loving connection with their sister hotel: Watergate Bay in Cornwall, so we were not surprised to fall in love with Another Place in Cumbria when we visited earlier this year. Set on the shores of Ullswater, it opened last summer and is the perfect base to explore the Lake District. It is both dog and child friendly, so a touch of luxury for families. Country and lake activities sprawl on your doorstep or stay inside and wallow in the beautiful pool with a view.

Lympstone Manor, Devon

For afternoon tea with a spectacular view, it's got to be Michael Caine’s Lympstone Manor, just outside Exeter. A gorgeous hotel with incredible food, it opened in 2017 and was awarded a Michelin Star just six months after opening. Our favourite reason to stay? Each hotel room has a gin tray, with Chase gin, Fevertree tonic and a regularly topped up ice bucket.
