The Ultimate Bespoke Tea Blend

← Return to all blogs

As tea partner for The Independent Hotel Show, we challenged ourselves to create the ultimate bespoke tea blend with the rarest ingredients.

Canton is a tea partner, not a tea supplier, as part of our service we aim to help our hotel and restaurant partners offer something unique that sets their tea service apart. This is where our bespoke blending service comes in.

We are proud to have created custom blends for prestigious brands such as The Wolseley, One Aldwych, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park and Petersham Nurseries. We consult with our partners to create the perfect blend which tells it's own unique story, such as the gorgeous silky Caramel Tea (pictured below) which we created especially for The Wolseley to pair with their best selling classic caramel florentines. The 'Summer Garden' herbal blend created for Petersham Nurseries, evokes an English summer garden with a mélange of aromatic herbs and flowers such as rose, chamomile and lemon verbena.

This year as partners of The Independent Hotel Show we decided to challenge ourselves to create the ultimate grand cru bespoke afternoon blend, using rare ingredients to create something totally luxurious. To create a blend Our Head of Tea, Ali, starts out with a 'hero ingredient' to build the blend around, the hero ingredient for this blend is an incredibly rare herbal infusion, which is soon to launch as part of our new Grand Cru range. Japanese Sakura Leaves, are the hand-rolled leaves of the Japanese cherry tree, which are harvested just once every 24 months in a small village in Japan. These rare leaves have an enthralling aroma of sweet cherry, ripe plum and frangipane. With such a beautiful, flavoursome hero ingredient to work with, it was important for Ali not to overwhelm the Sakura leaf with too many other ingredients, so that the amazing natural flavours were able to shine through. She settled on a base of our Canton Honey Orchid Oolong, which gave it richness and depth, but also lent complementary floral tones and stonefruit notes.

If you would like to try Sakura Honey Orchid it is available exclusively in The Suite at The Independent Hotel Show 15th-16th October, London Olympia.
